GHOST

Ghost-01.jpg

Hiya! Phew! We made it to the weekend. What a weird week! Atta boy/girl pins for everyone. I created the “Ghost” Lettering for stephsayshello’s draw a day prompts. What do you think? I am trying to combine illustration with lettering.

OH HI OCTOBER

October-01.jpg

Hiya! As of today my husband and I have been together for 22 years and married for 9 years. That sentence seems so strange. It doesn’t seem like that much time has passed at all. I am not even counting when we dated in high school. Neither of us could remember how long we were together then.

I am currently reading The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. I can’t help but to think the following: Why have I not read this book sooner? Why was this book not required reading in school? What a smart and clever girl. If you have not read this do so immediately.

Here are a few things for you to check out:

1. 100 Years of Halloween Costumes. I loved Halloween! I was a cat, witch, raggedy Ann and wind-up doll to name a few (I won first prize for the wind-up doll costume). What did you dress up as?

2. 42 Butterflies of North America.

3. Pigments created from fruit and veggie waste.

4. Splits: Photography Series by Tobias Friedrich. Wow!

YOU'RE NOT ALONE

yourenotalone3-01.jpg

Hiya! For Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, this Goodtype Tuesday, the challenge this week was to letter the phrase “Seize the Awkward” or what you might say to start the conversation – it can be as simple as “are you OK?,” You’re not alone,” “I’m here for you,” “if you need to talk, I’m here.” to highlight the importance of talking about mental health with your friends. If you think a friend is going through a tough time, Seize The Awkward provides resources on signs to look for and tips for how to start the conversations.

I lettered “You’re not alone” for anyone out there who needed a reminder and for my cousin Chris who took his own life in 1993. There are people out here who love you even if your mind is telling you otherwise.

Here are a few things for you to check out:

1. PANTONE’s 2020 Color Forecast.

2. The Great British Baking Show’ Is Back on Netflix. I love this show so much!

TOWANDA!

Towanda-01.jpg

Hiya! This weeks challenge at @goodtype was to letter your alter ego and I couldn’t resist lettering “Towanda” from Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe: A Novel. One of my favorite books and movies.

Here was the assignment: ALTER EGO. An alter ego means alternative self, which is believed to be distinct from a person's normal or true original personality. It is a second self or different version of oneself: such as the opposite side of a personality like Clark Kent and his alter ego Superman. In Latin, alter ego literally means "second I". Alter ego can also refer to the second, hidden side of one's own self. Do you have an alter ego? Have you ever thought about it? Not quite sure if you even have one? If not, make it up! Perhaps you've always wanted to be a drummer in a rock band or a secret superhero surfer! Your challenge this week is to letter your alter ego!

Here are a few things for you to check out:

1. Dave Chapelle: Sticks and Stones. Loved this special!

2. How To Write by Elizabeth Gilbert.

AVOID PLASTIC

AvoidPlastic-01.jpg

Hiya! This weeks challenge at @goodtype was to letter something you would like to raise awareness regarding our planet. I chose to letter avoid plastic because in the last couple years I have made additional efforts to avoid plastic in my life. I stopped using plastic grocery bags, produce bags, ziplock bags, trash bags, plastic wrap and purchased items in glass instead of plastic where possible. I’m not one of those people that can fit a years worth of trash in a mason jar but everyday I’m trying. “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly. - Anne Marie Bonneau. Please just try.

Here was the assignment: NATURE, it's not for everyone. Some of us love it and can't get enough of it and some of us aren't so much the outdoorsy type. Either way, I think we can all appreciate a breath of fresh air, literally, and a clean home, meaning our planet—lakes, rivers, oceans, mountains, valleys, cities, forests, parks, etc. Your challenge this week is to letter something you would like to raise awareness around regarding nature and our planet Earth. Or tell us about an organization doing great things for our planet.

Here are a few things for you to check out:

1. How a TV Works in Slow Motion.

2. A very satisfying animation.

3. Watercolour tattoo art: 16 incredible examples. Wow!
